Climate Resilience
Project
In 2026, we are excited to partner with the State of Colorado Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Drought & Climate Resilience Office to strengthen our ranch’s ability to withstand and recover from climate-related disasters.
As Colorado farmers and ranchers, we already work resilience into our daily operations by building soil health, using water efficiently, adjusting crops based on conditions, developing our workforce, and planning for succession. Yet with drought, severe storms, and extreme wildfires becoming more frequent, we must think creatively to keep our operation profitable and adaptable.
Our high-elevation valley faces increasing risks from prolonged drought, declining snowpack, and earlier runoff, all of which threaten forage availability and pasture health. This project enhances our resilience by improving soil moisture retention, establishing healthier forage stands, and reducing vulnerability to drought-driven production losses. Compost applications, mulching, aeration, and drought-tolerant reseeding tailored to Colorado’s mountain valleys help rebuild degraded pasture and promote long-term forage productivity.
